Wilmer Place, Hackney: Securing Planning Permission for 30 Homes in a Conservation Area

Maddox Planning secured planning permission for a residential development delivering 30 new homes on a brownfield site at Wilmer Place in Stoke Newington, within the London Borough of Hackney.
The site lies within the Stoke Newington Conservation Area and immediately adjacent to Abney Park Cemetery, a Grade II registered park and garden. Redevelopment therefore required a carefully considered planning strategy addressing heritage setting, neighbouring amenity and urban design considerations.
Maddox Planning led the planning strategy and coordinated the preparation and submission of the full planning application. Our work included managing the consultant team, advising on planning policy and heritage considerations, and supporting discussions with Hackney Council throughout the application process.
Planning permission was secured for a four-storey residential scheme comprising 30 homes, including affordable housing, arranged around a landscaped courtyard with cycle parking, green roofs and sustainable design measures.
The development will transform an underused brownfield site into a high-quality residential scheme, delivering new homes in a highly sustainable location while respecting the character of the surrounding conservation area.
